I am still pregnant.<br />
<br />
Colton was 5-8 days early (depending on which due date you agree with.. the one my MO dr. gave me and I had for the first 8 months of my pregnancy, or the one my NC dr. gave me, and I had for the last couple months. They couldn't agree!) Either way - he surprised us early one Saturday morning and decided to get the show on the road. He wanted out, so he (in my opinion) punched hard enough to break my water. And I was so grateful! I didn't want to wait another day to meet him, and apparently he didn't want to wait either!<br /><br />Since he was a week early, everyone told me my second child would be a bit earlier. I was very okay with that - and even expecting it. But the days have been ticking by and all of a sudden I am PAST my due date. Sigh. Every day my belly expands a bit more, and I can just see my stretch marks getting darker. (This may be an illusion. I'll have to let you know after she's born!) Every day it gets a little bit harder and harder for me to get on and off the floor to play with my sweet boy. Every day I am just a little bit more uncomfortable than the day before. The hardest part though is just how much I want to play with Colton and do all the things we had been doing even just a few weeks before, that have become very difficult for me. He LOVES wagon rides, and we used to take wagon rides down the street and back very often, then end up in the backyard to climb around on the play house, throw balls, run, splash in the water table, etc. Unfortunately, after pulling that cute little chunker (This boy is 30lbs last I checked!) around the street, when we get back my feet and ankles are so swollen I have to sit and just watch him play in the yard, with my feet propped up. It's not as fun that is for sure!<br />
<br />
Picking up toys = difficult. But this has been good because I was super motivated to teach Colton to pick up toys, and he has gotten so good at it! He always needs prompting, and rarely initiates "clean up time," but when I tell him it's time to "play clean up" he knows what that means and he runs around the living room grabbing the different toys and putting them in the correct bins! Oh it's so nice! He is easily distracted, but as long as I am right there next to the toy bins, saying "pick up all the cars!", then "pick up all the blocks!" repeatedly, he does really good. Sigh.. my boy is getting so big. (He thinks clean up time is a game. Please nobody tell him that it isn't!)<br />
<br />
So every day I ask God for TODAY to be Eliza's birthday. For some reason, his answer has always been "not yet." I don't understand why. I don't know if He is trying to teach me something (patience?!) or give me more individual time with Colton, but I am trying and trying to enjoy these last few days of being a family of 3 instead of 4.<br />
<br />
I am just so anxious!!!!jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-11301418956474405342012-04-17T16:50:00.004-05:002012-04-17T16:50:46.772-05:00Eliza's Nursery<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have spent a lot of time googling, pinteresting (can pinterest be a verb yet?), dreaming, and creating for Eliza's nursery. The walls had already been painted pink with a dark pink trim when we moved in, and we made the decision not to paint them if we have a girl. The ceilings are 10' tall, so painting would be a bit more of a chore than usual! And so, after much time and energy (and less $ than I thought it would be!) here is a mini-reveal of what I have been doing to her room. More photos to come later :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is Eliza's crib. It is the same crib we used for Colton, except this time we decided we were not going to spend the same ridiculous amount we did on Colton's bedding set, when he barely used it. And so, we are using this sage green crib sheet, as we already had 2 of them from Colton's nursery. We also had two sky blue ones, so he still has two sheets. I think it will work out just fine. :) I picked out this fabric online and hoped the colors were the same as I could see on my screen. LUCKILY they were! My mom helped me make ruffled crib skirt. We decided to only do 3 sides, since nobody will ever see the side against the wall. I think it turned out great! I love it!</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I chose to use the base of the mobile from Colton's crib skirt, and just change out the danglies (what are they actually called? Stuffies?) Colton's set had two ships and two whales. I decided to attempt to make four birdies out of this cute fat quarter bundle. I think they turned out really cute! And they were the first stuffies I have ever attempted. :)</td></tr>

The next picture shows a closeup of the curtains so you can see the fabric better. The danglies in the window I also made - but I have close up photos of those down the post a bit :)</td></tr>

Since it needed a new shade, my mom and I found one at good ol' hobby lobby, and then found this white ruffle fabric. My mom took this project on for me while visiting (THANKS MOM!) with only a little bit of help from me. I love the way it turned out, and clipping this adorable bright flower onto it just puts the finishing touches on!</td></tr>

Well? What do you all think? I will add a few more "finished room" pics to my blog in a day or two..and if I get REAL adventurous I might put a tutorial or two of the different things we made. (If there's something in particular you'd like to see a tutorial of, please let me know!)jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-17000012868843149302012-03-09T13:34:00.004-06:002012-03-09T13:34:56.244-06:00(Fake) CleaningSo I just read randomly found this blog post, written by Anna over at mylifeandkids.com, and thought it was HILARIOUS so I had to share it with you.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://mylifeandkids.com/2012/02/how-to-fake-clean-cook-and-iron/">http://mylifeandkids.com/2012/02/how-to-fake-clean-cook-and-iron/</a>
<br />
<br />
If you are a stay at home wife or mom, I bet you can relate. I cracked up the whole time as I read what other women do right before their husband walks in the door to make him think they cleaned all day. I know I have been guilty of some of my own "fake cleaning" episodes before, and I am so glad that many others are as well!<br />
<br />
My husband is NOT a clean freak, and if our house is a slight mess it doesn't really bother him. He likes the dishes done, the toys picked up, and at least a plan for dinner ready (if not dinner in progress). All VERY doable, easy things. Unfortunately, they don't always get done before he is home. It is very difficult to keep toys put up with a 1.5 year old taking them right back out again. Also, I hate dishes. If I could choose one chore to have someone else do all the time, it would be dishes. Hands down. On the flip side, I HATE dirty dishes. Really, truly, despise having dishes sitting in the sink or the counter. My two hates really pull at me - the desire to just get it over with, and the desire to avoid at all costs.<br />
<br />
For the most part, those 3 things are done every day. It is everything else that gets "fake cleaned" before Brad walks in the door. Fabreze is my best friend. I love how it smells like I really cleaned. Unfortunately, it just doesn't last that long. Pledge lasts longer - and if I pledge my coffee table just a minute or two before he walks in the door, it smells up the whole living room and lasts for quite awhile. Plus, it takes like 30 seconds to spray and wipe a coffee table. (I suppose this is real cleaning, with a fake intent. I want him to think I cleaned everything - not just the coffee table).<br />
<br />
Another thing I rush to do right before Brad comes home is to fold the throw blankets in the living room, and straighten all the couch pillows. It makes a HUGE difference in the way our living room looks if those two things are done, even if there are toys scattered about.<br />
<br />
My husband knows I fake clean. I have told him, and honestly he appreciates the small effort to make him feel more comfortable. What a sweetie, right?<br />
<br />
But, I have decided this isn't enough for me. I need my house to BE clean - not just FEEL clean. Confession: I vacuumed my whole house today, and realized it had probably been a week since the last time I had done this. One week may not be a long time for most families, but for our family, vacuuming really needs to be an every other day event. We have a pomeranian, a cat, a daddy who wears combat boots, and little boy who LOVES to play outside. Once a week doesn't cut it for us, especially for the amount of time we spend playing on the floor.<br />
<br />
So I need to make a "chore chart" - and STICK TO IT. That is my goal for this weekend - create one. Start it Sunday.<br />
<br />
I think the place where I may fail is the sticking to it. Creating one is easy peasy - following it is not.<br />
<br />
I'll let ya'll know how it goes - I'll post the schedule when it's done, and (hopefully) keep you up-dated on how I am doing on it.<br />
<br />
So, dear friends, how do YOU keep your house clean? Do you fake clean? Are there chores that don't get done often enough? Is your house perfect all of the time? Do you clean as you see something that needs done? Or do you clean before it needs done - because that's the day you're supposed to do it?<br />
<br />
Do you ever feel like you're in a losing battle with your house?jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-69650791727112101372012-03-03T11:43:00.000-06:002012-03-03T11:43:03.103-06:00Crock-Pot Chicken Tostadas<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Be prepared to be hungry. The other day, I was craving some Mexican - something fierce. So I spent some time googling recipes on Pinterest that would satisfy my craving and use things we happened to have on hand. I combined a recipe or two or three (or more) and this is we had for dinner:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Crock Pot Chicken Tostadas!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Seriously ya'll.. it was so easy and so delicious. Even Colton liked his, and Brad and I may have each eaten 3 tostadas. (THREE TOSTADAS! Can you say preggers?!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I would love to show you what I did, just in case ya'll get a craving for some Mexican, but no desire to change out of your yoga pants. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let's start with the chicken. Here is what you'll need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-1or 1.5 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-1 can cream of chicken soup</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-1/2 jar of salsa</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here is what you'll do:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Throw all ingredients into crock pot. Set on Low for 6-8 hours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-After 6-8 hours, take chicken out and shred on plate. Really you just need to do a little stirring on the plate, as it will be so tender it will just fall apart. Add some of the remaining juice from the crock pot on top and stir in, until all chicken pieces look nice and juicy. Feel free to sneak a few pieces to taste, and get excited for your meal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And now onto the tostadas. Here is what you'll need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-1 pack tortillas. The small size works better on a cookie sheet, but whatever you have works fine. We used the small, extra thick flour ones, because I am not a huge fan of corn tortillas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-pepper jack cheese</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Chicken (from above recipe)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-And your favorite toppings. We used tomatoes, baby spinach, cheddar cheese, and sour cream.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is what you'll do:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Lay tortillas out on cookie sheet. Top each with pepper-jack cheese. Bake at 400* for about 10 minutes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-Take out of oven, and top with shredded chicken. Bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until tortilla is golden and crispy, and meat is hot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Who knew! He tried and tried to make it to the top but kept slipping and sliding back down. He loved the sliding though, so I am not so convinced he wasn't trying to slide :)<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO4HbpZ-ET4MdFgaZ96PvFbs4xUXUf3iUud6aJ0F1835aRdo4Q1ppmVYETgk8Pg4zHYFNY8xUR84e1TfBW0BDlWQG35GnKOTingLSDyWi3c08pPSPgNtjmcOvdYzi0447grH7pivhxukNo/s640/blogger-image-1796514342.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO4HbpZ-ET4MdFgaZ96PvFbs4xUXUf3iUud6aJ0F1835aRdo4Q1ppmVYETgk8Pg4zHYFNY8xUR84e1TfBW0BDlWQG35GnKOTingLSDyWi3c08pPSPgNtjmcOvdYzi0447grH7pivhxukNo/s640/blogger-image-1796514342.jpg" /></a></div>jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-213840741138754242012-02-21T15:24:00.000-06:002012-02-21T15:24:04.875-06:00A little girl's nurseryI am starting to have a few mini panic attacks about having everything ready for baby girl. When I was pregnant with Colton, I had a plan. I researched nursery "themes" and looked for hours upon hours, and settled on a nautical theme fairly quickly after we found out the gender. Of course, I had much more time to research and choose, back when I had no job and no child, and we lived in a new place where I barely knew anyone at first! I knew which exact bedding I wanted, Blake by Nautica. We are renters, and so I knew his walls would be plain colored, which helps a lot when deciding on what to get. By the time I was 31 weeks along, which is how far I am now, I pretty much had everything figured out. We had purchased or been given everything we knew we needed, or had a plan of when to purchase it. I did spend the last month doing all of the finishing touches, but that was completely intentional. We moved during the last two months of my pregnancy to North Carolina, and Brad almost immediately left for a month of no contact training, SEER school (Survive, Evade, Escape and Rescue school - basically POW school). But I had a complete plan. I was calm, mostly, and extremely excited about getting everything ready and perfect for our upcoming bundle of joy to change our lives forever.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://j4babies.oversupplywarehouse.com/images/Listings//32461/big.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://j4babies.oversupplywarehouse.com/images/Listings//32461/big.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The bedding we picked for Colton's room. Isn't it adorable?!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
This time, I have a bit of a different perspective. I do not have hours upon hours to sit and research what exactly I want to do in the nursery. I have a sweet little boy who keeps me more than busy, and hates when I sit down at the computer. The limited amount of time I have spent trying to research and decide, has left me frustrated and discouraged. Needless to say, I keep putting everything off. But I now feel like I am at the point where I just need to make a decision and stop stressing. As much as i want her nursery to be absolutely perfect for her, as great as it makes me feel to have everything "ready" to welcome her into our hearts, arms, and home, I know it just isn't going to happen. The nursery I pictured whenever I would think about having a little girl is NOT coming together. I completely understand that not having everything perfect will definitely not change how much we love her, want her, and are excited about her. But I still want her room to be planned and prepared for her!<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/15621929927338028_GxCMu2Fm_f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/15621929927338028_GxCMu2Fm_f.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My favorite fabric for baby girl's room</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So here is my dilemma. We moved into this rental home, that we absolutely love, and have a two year lease. To paint a room, we have to pick a color, submit the color and plan to the property management office, and they will pass it on to the home owners. The home owners then have the option of agreeing to the paint plan, or nixing. The owners live in Germany currently, and don't seem to be the easiest people to get ahold of. Also, we really just don't want to paint. So baby girl's room color is: light pink. And yes, all of the trim in her room is dark pink, including the two closet doors and the hallway door. It is a pink overload! I am all about pink, honestly, but I don't know if that room can handle any more pink without feeling like the inside of a pepto bismol container! So I need to find bedding that incorporates the pink, while not BEING pink, if that makes sense. My thought has been to not buy a bedding set, as the AAP now recommends no bumpers anyway, using a plain colored crib sheet, and picking the fabric I want to make the crib skirt. Also, I want to make the curtains to either match the crib skirt or coordinate with it. But I just can't find material I like, in my price range! Here is a sample of the one I am absolutely in love with, but at $30/yard, it is definitely NOT practical! Plus a 2 yard minimum on each order, I just can't get it. Not even for a little "pop." But I love that it has the two colors of pink from the room, plus a pop of tiffany blue in it - I love tiffany blue in a little girl's room!<br />
<br />
So I am on the search for fabric. Cheap, sweet, not entirely pink fabric.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/15621929927338073_ktBx4W5h_f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://media-cdn.pinterest.com/upload/15621929927338073_ktBx4W5h_f.jpg" width="213" /></a>But I did find a crib mobile I love that I think I can recreate (it's from Etsy). It has the birdies that I love and want in her room, with enough dimension and contrast to be very visually stimulating. I imagine it will take quite a bit of time to cut all of those birdies out, in two or so different card stocks each, but this may actually be a project I can work on while Colton is awake. If he is coloring at the table next to me, he is usually fairly content with me doing something a bit different than him, as long as I am next to him. So as soon as I pick fabric, I will get the paper to match and start on this cute bird mobile!<br />
<br />
Can you tell I am trying to do this nursery on the cheap? We are using the dresser/changing table from Colton's room and purchasing him a new dresser. The crib that matches the dresser will also be in baby girl's room. We purchased Colton a new crib that converts to a toddler bed, so he will be in that. Actually, we didn't purchase it new - we purchased it from someone, but it looks brand new. Their baby decided to be a complete co-sleeper, and now that she's 3 and has slept in it less than a handful of times, they decided it wasn't worth it to keep it. Score for us though! We will be using the glider from Colton's room, we have his old swing and vibration chair for her as well. She gets to use his car seat, luckily it's gray and green so no worries about it being too "boyish" :) Really, we haven't had to purchase very many things for her at all so far! My mom's sister has a daughter who is turning 2 soon, so we have been given all of Mayli's hand-me-down's from when she was tiny, so baby girls wardrobe is pretty set. :) We will probably purchase a few things, since I have never gotten to shop for a girl before, but it's nice to know that we don't have to! So really.. I don't know why we are stressing. Lots of little things to get (girly paci's, blankets, swaddle blankets, maybe a few girly toys, etc.) but none of the "big stuff" besides bedding and curtains. And I have right under two months.<br />
<br />
Two months.<br />
<br />
Oh gosh, if I am going to be sewing something, I better get on it. I only have two months.<br />
<br />
If you're still reading this, give yourself a pat on the back. You have just read my repeated rambling thoughts for the past week. Sorry it's so long and not that interesting!<br />

It didn't stick, but we had big ol' pretty flakes falling from the sky. Colton and I quickly got dressed for snow, which isn't hard when really it's not all that cold, and ran outside to experience our first, and possibly only, snow of the year. I got a couple of pretty great shots of Colton loving it. He was very excited to point at the snow, and try and "catch" the flakes. You can see a few of them on his jeans in the photo where he's sitting in his adirondack chair. What a sweet little boy. :)<br />

I bought the canvas a few weeks ago, and stained it right away. But it took me awhile to have the time to finish it. I knew i wanted birdies (that's the nursery theme!) and I knew what verse, but I just never did it. Finally, I took the time to complete it! The dishes may be sitting on the counter, dirty from dinner, but the canvas is complete. :) what do you all think? <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello again, dear friends. Week #3 (can you even believe this!?). Let's jump in!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1) They say it's my birthday (na na na na na) and it was! Feb. 1 I turned TWENTY-SIX! I love birthdays. Mine, yours, Brads, Coltons, everyone's really. Any reason to make an ordinary day extraordinary is definitely good by me! Colton surprised me with a very extra special gift: saving all of his poops 'til Daddy came home from work! (It really is the little things in life, isn't it?) I wonder if he knew it was my birthday...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/422973_10100406018851931_1667363168_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/422973_10100406018851931_1667363168_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The beautiful cake :)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/419087_10100406018971691_17000859_47154671_1784751538_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/419087_10100406018971691_17000859_47154671_1784751538_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is the chosen cake mix ... seriously delicious!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2) Brad BAKED me a cake. YES - BRAD BAKED A CAKE! My husband is not one to spend any time in the kitchen. Ever, really. The kitchen is my domain - and the garage is his. But on a very special occasion, he will get in the kitchen and make or bake something. My birthday apparently constitutes one of those times, and the cake he baked was to die for - triple chocolate cake, with a chocolate glaze frosting. I wish I had some right now! But we definitely ate it all!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/405965_10100406018712211_17000859_47154669_855168207_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/405965_10100406018712211_17000859_47154669_855168207_n.jpg" width="213" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Working hard in the kitchen! </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3) Taking away the paci has been.... difficult. Re sleep training has been ... challenging. I think it may be even harder to re sleep train this boy than it was to initially sleep train. Initially, he LOVED being rocked and cuddled. Now that he hates it, there is not much we can do to calm him down before bedtime. He knows when it's bedtime - we have our routine - but nothing really works help him self-soothe, or soothe at all really, but the paci.. which we aren't giving in to. So as hard as it is to set a screaming toddler in his crib and allow him to scream, that's all we can really do. Luckily it only lasts maybe 5 or 10 minutes TOPS, but those minutes are excruciating. The rest of the day though has been SO NICE without it - he "talks" more, he hasn't even really missed it. Such a blessing to not need to take it everywhere with us -and to know when Baby Girl gets here, we will not worry so much about how to teach Colton that she can have the paci, but all of a sudden he can't. It will be more "normal" by then! Pressing on towards this goal...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4) Colton has gotten to be quite HILARIOUS lately. He honestly does the funniest things I have ever seen! Last night, he realized his drum can also be a hat... so he has been walking around with it on his head since then. All last night throughout the Super Bowl, all this morning, pretty much as often as he can. He will take it off to eat, and of course to sleep, but other than that he loves his "hat". He plays with his cars, while wearing the hat. He pushes his push-car around, while wearing the hat. He builds with his blocks, while wearing his hat. Here's a pic to show you what I mean:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/428619_10100405678399201_17000859_47153934_1105297519_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/428619_10100405678399201_17000859_47153934_1105297519_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Don't be fooled by the slightly sad face - I took this with my phone and had a hard time catching his happy face! But he LOVES it!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5) We found a playgroup on post in the Youth Activity Center, and Colton had a BLAST there! He was a little unsure at first - it's a big open gym with tons of toys, for only kids 3 and under. After a few minutes of grasping my hand so tightly while exploring the gym, he let go and took off running. It was so sweet to see him having such a good time! He found a couple basketball goals, and figured out how to make a basket. Several times, he tried from different distances from the goal to see if he could make it. He is actually a really good shot! Honestly, I could not get him away from this corner of the gym for almost 45 minutes. Afterwards though, he finished exploring and found many blocks, trains with tracks, ride-on toys, tents, tunnels, cars with roads to drive on, etc. I kept trying to play with him, but this boy was not interested in mommy at all. He would give me the stink-eye and walk off, continuing to play on his own and with the other toddlers. What a blessing to know that he is so independent! Although it occassionally made me a little sad when he would snub me, I really am glad that he (already!) is not 100% needy of me. Hopefully that will help to ease the transition to life with a new baby!</div>

I think this is all I have for this week. Thanks for reading! :)jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-87298092058889371722012-01-29T17:34:00.000-06:002012-01-29T17:35:30.649-06:0001/29/12: Blessings<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
First off: Happy Birthday, Kansas! We love you a lot and do miss your rolling prairies and amazing spring thunderstorms. And, of course, we miss the people there as well! :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://boxedlight.com/dlux4/images/kansas8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://boxedlight.com/dlux4/images/kansas8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Some of these blessings may sound like a stretch, but if "every good and perfect thing comes from above" (James 1:17), then maybe they aren't stretches, just not as obvious? :) Colton and I have had the sickies for a little over a week now, so we have been confined to our house for the most part, and haven't done too much. But here we go:<br />
<br />
-I have a little boy who is 100% not into anything snuggley: no cuddles, no long hugs, no leaning against me and reading a book or watching a cartoon, nada. BUT when I have a sick little boy, the usual 5 minute time span of wanting to read with me, will turn into a 30 minute time span. I always love to read with him, so every day I attempt reading at least 5 or 6 times (Okay.. some days its actually more like 12), but 5 minutes is about all I can get out of him. I cherish those 5 minute time spans, and hope that one day he will enjoy it more consistently. This week, has been SUCH a blessing. I have not gotten to hold him like that, for that amount of time, in many, many months. And I ate. it. up. We got through several "peter rabbit" books, the whole "old testament Bible stories" book he was given for his birthday, and the pop-up farm board book that is his favorite. It almost makes all the coughing and sniffling worth it. Almost. :)<br />
<br />
-Even with two sickies in the house, breathing and coughing everywhere, Brad has not gotten sick! I know his immune system has got to be better than a pregnant woman and a one year old, but it astonishes me that he hasn't caught this. I am so thankful! He gets up so early every day, around 4:45 or 5:00am, to get to PT, that any time he has a cold he gets run down so fast. I prayed and prayed that he wouldn't catch this, and so far the Lord has answered that prayer and granted Brad health! Thank you, Jesus!<br />
<br />
-On Monday, we had our 2-week ear infection check-up to see if it is all gone, and it's not. Colton has been put on a stronger antibiotic and hopefully that one will work better than the amoxicillin did. I have no way of telling, since it has not really seemed to bother him at all. During that appointment, the Doctor suggested quitting the paci because it has already started to have an affect on his teeth. (EEEK!) She showed me how it is affecting him, and although I had not noticed his top teeth forming around the nipple of the paci, I can definitely see it now! It isn't too bad yet, but it can get a lot worse if we don't quit soon. I know that braces are painful, not from personal experience, and am very thankful that we caught this in time to have the conviction to really stick to quitting the paci before it gets any worse. When I asked the doctor if this is at the point where theres a guarantee he will need braces, she said not yet. Phew!<br />
<br />
-We were (once again) home Sunday morning with a boy who is too sick to be in the nursery at church, but not really all that sick. His nose still has some colored snot running out of it, and he is still coughing up phlegm. A pretty picture, right? We thought the other parents would probably not appreciate the possibility of passing this on to their kiddos. I am praying that he will be better by Tuesday so I can attend PWOC this week. I really did miss it last week! Since we have been home all day, we decided to go on a family bike ride. Nothing too long - just about 30-40 minutes, and at an easy pace, but it was really fun! We haven't gone on a family bike ride since the summer probably, and I forgot how much I enjoy it. We bundled Colton all up, (the wind here can be brutal!) but it wasn't very cold and he seemed to enjoy the scenery. I am getting to the point in my pregnancy where my belly is big enough that when I lean forward on my bike, my legs hit my belly. It is quite annoying after 5 or so minutes. I don't know how many more times we will be able to go on a family bike ride while I am pregnant, and it will be awhile after baby girl is born before she is able to sit in the bike trailer with Colton, so we will definitely be attempting a few more rides together before then. I know I said it before, but I am very thankful for this January weather! :)<br />
<br />
-Speaking of baby girl... I am 28 weeks pregnant right now! And yes, I did just have to go to thebump.com to remember. I really thought I was 26 or maybe 27. I have one pair of jeans that are non-maternity that still fit. There may be a few more, but the maternity ones are so comfortable I don't even try with the others. I do try to wear this pair frequently, because I love boots with skinny jeans, but I am refusing to purchase maternity skinny jeans. I will just quit wearing boots when these stop fitting. This may seem silly... but I feel blessed that these still fit (with a hair tie around the button, I'll admit) really well while I am 28 weeks!<br />
<br />
-ONLY 12 OR SO MORE WEEKS TO GO!! yay! :)<br />
<br />
This probably about sums up what has been going on this week, and how the Lord has blessed me. I will admit that at times my attitude this week has been rather poor. I would LOVE to blame it on sleep deprivation - I have been getting up 5 or 6 times a night to either pee/drink milk to curb my heart burn/blow my nose/etc. But these negativities do not compare to the love the Lord has for me. And I feel remorseful that I let a few little things get in the way of me seeing "the big picture" - So thank you, Jesus, for second chances. For a new week, a new day, a new hour, a new minute, in which to change my attitude and be more representative of the Your love, and the sacrifice You have made in order that I might have eternal life for you.<br />
<br />
There's a song on KLOVE right now that has really been speaking to me. It's Where I Belong by Building 429, and the chorus goes like this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;">All I know is I'm not home yet</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"> </span></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;">This is not where I belong </span></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;">
</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"><div style="text-align: center;">
Take this world and give me Jesus </div>
</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"><div style="text-align: center;">
This is not where I belong</div>
</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;">So when the walls come falling down on me</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"> </span></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;">And when I'm lost in the current of a raging sea </span></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;">
</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"><div style="text-align: center;">
I have this blessed assurance holding me.</div>
</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 17px;"><br /></span></div>
And this song echoes in my soul every time I hear it. What a wonderful reminder that this life is not all there is. I am blessed, not just because of the many things the Lord has given me, or prayers He has answered, but because of His love for me. Love that sent His only son to the cross so that I can be able to spend eternity with Him. I can have assurance that this life is not all there is. I can have peace when the sea is raging around me. I can have hope if I have a Job week. Or month. Or year. (Which I am not right now.)<br />
<br />
Lord, prepare me please. I know that this life WILL have turmoil, and that the only way to thrive is by being held in Your hand. Help me to draw near to you during the highs of life as well as the lows.<br />
<br />
Dear friends, I do hope your week has been blessed. :)<br />

My. I have never been diligent enough in blogging to do a WEEKLY post.)<br />
<br />
But this post will be a blessings post - and I think it will be good for my soul. Every weekend, or.. ya know.. whenever I get to... I would like to do a short list of ways the Lord has blessed me this week. Either through answered prayers, things taken care of for me, reminders of His love/justice/mercy, etc. In my hope, this will be a way to keep me focused on the BIG picture, instead of stuck in the little things, the muck, the mundane, the daily.<br />
<br />
I won't bore you by relisting the constant blessings weekly. Of COURSE my husband, my son, my growing baby in my belly, etc. are daily blessings. So count those as permanents, mmkay? :) Unless the Lord re-reminds me in some specific way of those blessings, they will be assumed.<br />
<br />
No better way to jump in to this weekly post, then to dive. So here we go.<br />
(PS. feel free to join me on this weekly refocusing journey. I could probably use this daily, but I know for sure that won't happen. So weekly it is! Just let me know you're joining me, so I can comment!)<br />
<br />
--We sold our washer and dryer on Craigslist. When we moved here to Texas, our rental home already had a washer and dryer. Since we have a 2 year lease, we thought... why store ours, we will just sell it and whenever we need to, we will buy another one! I listed them on CL a couple weeks ago, got lots of responses, but I am a bit picky about who I respond to. (Please. no creepos coming to my house. If your grammar is awful, or your typing has more mistakes than a 1st graders, I probably won't respond. But if you sound like I would when emailing someone from CL, then I will respond.) So I responded to someone, and they came and bought it. Thank you, Jesus, for providing this. Did we NEED the money we sold it for? No. Will it be useful? Yes. It is going towards baby girl things. :)<br />
<br />
--The girl who bought the w/d was super nice, so we went to lunch this week. And we have the same degree, from different universities. And she loves the Lord. Seriously Jesus, how do you orchestrate EVERYTHING?<br />
<br />
--I joined a Bible study at PWOC (Protestant Women of the Chapel, a Bible study on post), and picked Beth Moore's Daniel study. I have been LOVING it so far. Who doesn't love a little Beth Moore insight though, right?! :) I can tell it will be challenging for me -but in a way that I need. Somehow she (or the Lord, perhaps?) is focusing completely on things I have been dealing with. Of course. So I am excited to see how this semester plays out, and what the Lord has in store during this study.<br />
<br />
--I won a drawing on facebook for a $50 gift card! And to a baby store, nonetheless! Because of that gift card, we were able to purchase a great lightweight umbrella-ish stroller that our car seat will snap onto, for those times we don't need a double. (Like PWOC!) We picked the Bumbleride Flite, and got a phenomenal deal. We price matched Amazon, so they dropped $80 for that, and then used our gift card for 50, and got it 130 off! Score! :) PS.. still looking for the perfect double. Preferably on Craigslist, of course!<br />
<br />
--Brad gets early release days every Thursday. Apparently this is standard for everyone on Fort Hood, according to the post commander. It is such a blessing to have one day a week he comes home around 3. I love Thursdays!<br />
<br />
--The weather here has been 100% amazing. Colton and I have spent countless hours this week playing in the playset out back, swinging, climbing up the slide, tossing a football around, exploring the many different sticks in the backyard, and splashing in the water table. It really has been a wonderful time. He would spend all day outside if we could, and some days we come close to it! All afternoon, at least, plus a long walk around the neighborhood! It is such a joy to play with him, see him learning new things all the time, teach him things, see the excitement on his face as we put his shoes on, etc. I am really trying to soak up these last couple months of just Colton and mommy all day time. I know it will be a lot different with a brand-new baby, and as much as I am looking forward to it, I know I will miss these hours and hours of playing with Colton. So I will soak it all up now, enjoy it, and try to overlook the many, many kicks, steps, sitting on, etc. to my growing belly. I know he just wants to be close to me, and using me as a jungle gym is a fun way to do that. As uncomfortable as it makes me. :)<br />
<br />
Well dear friends, sorry I am slightly MIA. Hopefully this weekly blessings post sticks, and I can quit being so sporadic with my posts. Please let me know if you are joining me in this venture so I can be thinking and praying for the Lord to reveal His blessings in your life, as well!<br />

My obsession again.) There is one specific stroller that always gets my heart a-racing. But that specific stroller can cost around $1500. EEEEK! The Bugaboo Donkey is amazing, though! But right now BabyGizmo is doing a giveaway of one. Could I be that one? I don't know! But it's worth a shot, that stroller is amazing and everything a girl could ask for!<br />
<br />
What is wrong with this stroller obsession of mine?! My husband does not support it at all. Not in the least bit. Which is why I am scouring craigslist looking for my dream stroller. (I have no disillusions that the less than one year old donkey will be on CL right now. But I do know that several others I have my eye on are there - and at prices my husband will approve of, ish!)<br />
<br />
If YOU want to enter to win the donkey, just check out the baby gizmo company on facebook. It will give you all the instructions there!<br />
<br />
PS. If you HAVE a donkey.. and you want to give it to me/sell it to me for an amazingly low price.. I would be glad to take it off your hands! :)jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-693416265401032182011-12-16T13:30:00.000-06:002011-12-16T13:33:07.679-06:00High Five Friday 12/16<a href="http://www.frommygreydeskblog.com/" target="_blank"><img alt="From My Grey Desk" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmcpfwgIIAJm0FyYd0MdA8XYJE9Q3PQNf9psHFB7TOB4sLU3gh7DCee0PvpeQm57r5EjxLTy7ni-57QGyFf5Mwa9VEAl4OfEyC5WpkXl5-FAXMYPMzzCMJAvYQP5RNlIphe0ueWLoJY-xe/s250/BLOGBUTTON1.png" /></a><br />
<br />
Well I am trying something new - a linky party called "High Five Friday" - which, as I understand it, is 5 highlights of your week. I think (I hope) this will get my tush back in gear and update this bloggity way more often than I actually do! At least it will give me a good excuse to have a bit o' randomness in my posts :)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So here goes. In no particular order:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. We did Christmas early this year. We will not be in our house in Christmas morning, we will be travelling, and we have all our gifts to each other and Colton wrapped and under the tree so last night, we threw caution to the wind and opened everything! (Santa, please forgive our naughty behavior!) It was super fun to be a little spontaneous with Christmas! And even MORE fun to watch Colton love his gifts. The big thing we got him was this awesome pirate ship water table (YES, its december!). He was really really enjoying playing with it while Brad was putting it together, even without water! So we set it up in our garage and put a couple inches of water in it, and he had a ball. I loved watching him and can't wait for the weather to be warm enough to set it up on our back porch and hang out in the sunshine all. day. long. I know.. it's Texas.. that will probably happen in March! :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. We are in the process of making sure everything we own fits in our house (its so hard changing houses!) but we have gotten rid of, thanks to Craigslist, several things we decided we don't need in this home and won't use. PHEW. It feels so good to start getting our garage ready to be a garage and not a place to store furniture that we won't need here! (Bye-bye old TV stand and old TV!) Only a few more things to sell and we will be cleared out! I also just recently took a large box of donations to the Good Will. I suppose I should have done that while in NC, that way it wouldnt have had to be moved all the way to TX. Oh well, live and learn! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. I have been making a family cook book for my husbands mothers family and I am almost done! I have even tried a few of the recipes that were sent to me to include and LOVE them so far! I can't wait to have the rest of them in. I was hoping to get it distributed by XMas, but that is looking unlikely now... But I really think it will be in the mail to everyone by Thursday this week (that is my goal) and so people should receive them right after Christmas. I hope they enjoy them as much as I will! It has been more work than I might have expected it would be, but definitely worth it!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4. Colton is obsessed with the Christmas tree and all of the ornaments. I have found ornaments in every random place because he steals them and hides them, silly boy! We have all of the nice, dont want them broken/lost ones up high. But the ones that are low enough to reach, he will take off the tree and walk around with one in each hand, banging them together. A few have been broken this way, but as long as I am watching him and making sure he doesn't get hurt I am okay with it. He just loves the ornaments so much!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
(I saved the best one for last!)</div>
<div>
5. We had a sonogram on Tuesday evening and found out.................. ITS A GIRL! I can hardly believe it! We are so excited to have a baby girl joining our family. I know that God has picked her out especially for our family and it will be so much fun to meet her in April, watch Colton play with her and interact with her, and just to generally love on her. I have been crocheting a blanket for her these past few days and I learned how to crochet little flowers, which are quite adorable. Thank you youtube tutorials! :) After Christmas, I will definitely be getting down to the business of figuring out her room. Right now it is storing everything Colton has out-grown - clothes, blankets, burp rags, baby swing, vibratey seat, baby carriers, nursing cover, etc. etc. etc. But I will need to organize it and figure out what is gender neutral enough to use for baby girl! I think almost everything but the crib bedding and the clothes will be, luckily!</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Well that's all. Link on up! </div>jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-23758759578846867622011-12-10T13:56:00.001-06:002011-12-10T13:56:46.145-06:00We live in texas!!Well 20 plus hours of driving and 3 days, and we made it!!! The Lord 100% took care of us on the drive and while looking for a house. We found a house we love and in the price range we hoped for! In only 2 days, we found the house, offered a bit less for rent, filled an application, and signed a lease :) phew! So we got to drive to ks for thanksgiving and it was so good to be there and see our loved ones!! We do know we are truly blessed. <br />
Colton did so well during this stressful transition time! He slept well, napped well, ate well, adjusted well. He is so great! I love his relaxed nature. <br />
Baby #2 is growing great! I am just now at 21 weeks and transitioning to maternity clothes. This pregnancy has been fairly easy so far! Very similar to my first pregnancy. I am a bit more tired but I know part of that is my days are not spent relaxing at all this time :)<br />
We do get to find out the gender early next week and I just can't wait!! <br />
Well I am typing on my iPhone and it's a little more difficult so I will leave you with some fun photos of colton during our traveling!<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYIW8Fyl_frOegMuNG7_wkKdRIbEr7ZofIgWbLIVTqRS7f6st7VzHBdMPQM9jBO3yq2nbUNzfXX3winl8qldupRsAzgOPr1TrMYHllfKU-GM4vD1nIeFV_Fl-3870HeWDOcgt_zysEoVMC/s640/blogger-image-958558110.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYIW8Fyl_frOegMuNG7_wkKdRIbEr7ZofIgWbLIVTqRS7f6st7VzHBdMPQM9jBO3yq2nbUNzfXX3winl8qldupRsAzgOPr1TrMYHllfKU-GM4vD1nIeFV_Fl-3870HeWDOcgt_zysEoVMC/s640/blogger-image-958558110.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizAPYY54pW30PDIbPhvwrTolb8jibf8N-dTO5sNDXWsCWfrLd_Oaxcxh-4ebt2-0DssmbbTgYOyPBj8mnGnjufR4G4nWjPB68t5sr2-Iav9crK45Nbs5UnMDNiUyS6cqoYXKocmAhL9kiH/s640/blogger-image-2070005159.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizAPYY54pW30PDIbPhvwrTolb8jibf8N-dTO5sNDXWsCWfrLd_Oaxcxh-4ebt2-0DssmbbTgYOyPBj8mnGnjufR4G4nWjPB68t5sr2-Iav9crK45Nbs5UnMDNiUyS6cqoYXKocmAhL9kiH/s640/blogger-image-2070005159.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEF9PDDoLAhaZazdA_j2VEB-2B3fgac2JPIHJVVnoFZYFQn6XLXADaJwaBIZRMBReoJ43ypw8BjztE4EOGH9Fs9o0Ech5aPMBzFKjZVZ9dj5iq7O1KAIcCpEmCrh9QBWt-BcAqGeOY_ez7/s640/blogger-image--311688381.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEF9PDDoLAhaZazdA_j2VEB-2B3fgac2JPIHJVVnoFZYFQn6XLXADaJwaBIZRMBReoJ43ypw8BjztE4EOGH9Fs9o0Ech5aPMBzFKjZVZ9dj5iq7O1KAIcCpEmCrh9QBWt-BcAqGeOY_ez7/s640/blogger-image--311688381.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFV_jrTm-HAXy8jYDpDRzhjfiyXEtXKKrKIaf5dWD6TEMrm0Amj30Jik9EcKABQIqVjY41F-NrbVvxgXXYKptFocIVgljyItcHFyIQvihxZTOp1V-itBkeOoTe6Zg027O3S-9lsBYf25UJ/s640/blogger-image-415048119.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFV_jrTm-HAXy8jYDpDRzhjfiyXEtXKKrKIaf5dWD6TEMrm0Amj30Jik9EcKABQIqVjY41F-NrbVvxgXXYKptFocIVgljyItcHFyIQvihxZTOp1V-itBkeOoTe6Zg027O3S-9lsBYf25UJ/s640/blogger-image-415048119.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj67T1-pUWpFi_vtCdLD76bQhmP3ITP-XHKHoXqGMuigHQGx_kfUCwxUKOcmTDsyT1EsPUmyMh7GIk8dX4O0_Jitjxhv0pG7ZlgKVk_0_DA1PkoNGt-bFKNXa0qPbpiTHUoqzkVVkwo4Gmy/s640/blogger-image--1198639482.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj67T1-pUWpFi_vtCdLD76bQhmP3ITP-XHKHoXqGMuigHQGx_kfUCwxUKOcmTDsyT1EsPUmyMh7GIk8dX4O0_Jitjxhv0pG7ZlgKVk_0_DA1PkoNGt-bFKNXa0qPbpiTHUoqzkVVkwo4Gmy/s640/blogger-image--1198639482.jpg" /></a></div>jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-67581340543707325492011-10-21T09:59:00.000-05:002011-10-21T10:00:11.693-05:00A Life Update<br />

Well I think that's all I have got for now. We have a couple more announcements, so stay tuned! :)jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-86065774532739646912011-08-11T09:11:00.000-05:002011-08-11T09:35:38.363-05:00Etsy? NO way!
<br />The other day, I decided to make Colton a pouf. Maybe you read a blog called <a href="http://www.thenester.com/">the nester</a>? Well the other week they did a whole post on poufs, <a href="http://www.thenester.com/2011/07/moroccan-poufs-pouffes-and-poofs.html">http://www.thenester.com/2011/07/moroccan-poufs-pouffes-and-poofs.html</a>. I have had a pouf before in my life (I was in college... real furniture seemed way too expensive. poufs, on the other hand, not quite as much. and really comfy!) but it was HUGE. I am talking barely fit through a doorway huge. And so... the pouf project began. My darling husband and I went to the fabric store, found a medium-weight fabric at an acceptable price (luckily he was there... I would have picked a different one at double the price. and this one turned out FABULOUS!) and bought a zipper to go along with it. When we got home, I was just too darn excited to wait and so I went straight to work creating a pattern for this pouf. I wanted it simple but sturdy. Since it's for the play room, it didn't need to be fancy, but I did want it to be cute. It took about 5 hours for the whole thing, including figuring out a pattern, and this is how it turned out:<div>
<br /></div><div>
<br /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuDvlfEIJ7p2WRwP1y0NIbw_fy_hRU7ACwY3_1KnLTRnAr8sWes9QMPGOwYzFH_qU7ZvBMNASbzQDscVGL4fEa4zaQEj7xAnka7PbzPaIRjY5FRU_JUaHQMNsIEylsTJ9BvuC63ytXcSGb/s400/186.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639604070465521714" /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj48tnRCe28RRCzmrOXBvTMzohZZ1d6mJYBbcWfOr6614ENxOLGtgr8hSEJOrYSwhr4A88t_gGF3FIKoqmab_w3yu5fsmTnAZLXFxkrQ3SqMm3SyS2cg4kL5Iif_J1F8Rvp91JMeefvZsa9/s400/184.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639604067328130290" /><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Lola thought it was for her. Silly cat!</div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwNVu598zMuXRmXOJZhQ6FG-foobcb23-Jjvw4qzfHYu_4-FTzA4_Rvdpriri0UbKczlCVjeOCu8gheFTj4sYqJnSEAq1OyGDZRmnffKJtXgiSymmryZhfrNTbjpwkVjYkrgDbvNcwWRZF/s400/178.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639604060711292818" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">But it was really for Colton, who has decided this is where he will drink his bottle now. :) </div><div>
<br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6A9DsRZKWKtYsU4Cbx1GghdSaur0isNSGXrGqLuGPMRe1XSrZ_sk6lFW3ZLe3S_K8A_DsHJ7giX30DZ-ganGbJyv2MUfx2SZC22DPDr3SoBbLESq99ZYlSQM377rPpU_SuJSK8GLYRbVP/s400/009.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639604054465434674" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">And so Brad and I got to chatting. And looking these up on Etsy. There is one person who is selling a pouf similar, filled with torn foam (thats the best way.. its extra comfortable that way) and she is charging $195 + $40 shipping. I can't imagine she is selling that many of them! Other than that, many people are selling bean bags anywhere from $75 (these are pretty small) to $150ish for the larger ones. Seems pricey, right? So then we thought.. why not sell poufs? I will probably be able to make one in less than 4-5 hours now that I have a pattern... hopefully! And so my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/GoingGreening?ref=pr_shop">Etsy shop</a> has begun. It only has one thing, and I am still trying to figure out the banner. I created a tag for my poufs:</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjYTtHmm3bqKulaFCk7iVxS5dd-KXM5BVBxlafE_nVu9kvcJouJTsPAJrwoVr0TrqBEgfvuXp-SGOPcwoPN6pClNDuaOarGUn-WxnNmzS_gNSi4xh4CcuIbfeM8xih6iS9pxLIILkJzGCN/s400/Etsy.jpg" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 359px; height: 343px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639604073193692210" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwNVu598zMuXRmXOJZhQ6FG-foobcb23-Jjvw4qzfHYu_4-FTzA4_Rvdpriri0UbKczlCVjeOCu8gheFTj4sYqJnSEAq1OyGDZRmnffKJtXgiSymmryZhfrNTbjpwkVjYkrgDbvNcwWRZF/s1600/178.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div></a>But haven't quite figured out how to turn this into an etsy banner. Paint just isn't cutting it! I think I need photoshop or something! :)</div><div>
<br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >So friends. As part of being my valued bloggie friends (okay, most of you I am related to.) If you order a pouf, etsy convo me, let me know you saw my blog, and I will create a personal listing for you using the fabric we will pick out, and give you 20% off. (As soon as I figure out how to do all those things. I am sure just attempting it will work, right?)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6A9DsRZKWKtYsU4Cbx1GghdSaur0isNSGXrGqLuGPMRe1XSrZ_sk6lFW3ZLe3S_K8A_DsHJ7giX30DZ-ganGbJyv2MUfx2SZC22DPDr3SoBbLESq99ZYlSQM377rPpU_SuJSK8GLYRbVP/s1600/009.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}">

<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">PS. my husband is stoked. he was all for this. I am not sure I have seen him as excited as he was on Sunday (when we were discussing etsy) in a long time. So hopefully this works out! :)</div><div style="text-align: left;">

Usually I peel them and cut them into bite-size pieces for him to pick up, but today he stole the one I was eating. So I grabbed the camera and got some cute cute photos of him eating the plum "big boy style." I haven't had one since I was probably 8. Seriously. Well this year brad has really gotten into cycling, and I thought "what the heck... I could be a cyclist too!" So we went to <a href="http://www.thebicycleshop.com/">the bicycle shop</a> and picked out an amazing Comfort bike - the <a href="http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/town/recreation/navigator/navigator_2_0_wsd/#">Trek Navigator 2.0 WSD</a> in charcoal. And I love it. It came in while my mom was here and I got to ride it quite a bit that week. We also got a bike trailer to pull Colton in, and it's so stinkin' cute. He is really adorable in it and loves looking at everything passing us in a faster-than-walking/running pace. <div><br /></div><div>And bonus - it's great exercise. I have lost 2 lbs since getting this bike (don't laugh - 2 lbs is an accomplishment to me! LOL). </div><div><br /></div><div>Double bonus - it is so fun for Brad and I to go on evening rides together. We only go probably 5 or so miles, and we don't do a crazy fast pace -more of a pace where we can chat as we ride side-by-side. I have fallen in love. If only we lived close enough to a grocery store that I could get a basket and bike there when we needed just a few things. But alas - walmart is probably 8 miles away and through some streets that are too busy for me to feel comfortable pulling the baby on. </div><div><br /></div><div>Check the link out so you can see a photo of my adorable bike!! :) </div><div><a href="http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/town/recreation/navigator/navigator_2_0_wsd/#/us/en/model/details?url=us/en/bikes/town/recreation/navigator/navigator_2_0_wsd">http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/town/recreation/navigator/navigator_2_0_wsd/#/us/en/model/details?url=us/en/bikes/town/recreation/navigator/navigator_2_0_wsd</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-7806146528500957022011-07-14T10:05:00.000-05:002011-07-14T10:15:39.718-05:00Colton's Smoothie<div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Daddy feeding Colton a fruit smoothie.<div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">MMMM.... delicious.</div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinJ33jWzdtBNIGJi2nVFFWQtJfjRLPJ3HTYisKDPKw8fw3ACQ7i7zRMkxoN4PZtBQiiqyX_euS3T-nthLnyuvxemX9cC2hyphenhyphenPis-PEdzQYT1wf04T7b6MlenNmPFMRX4qMzYRQzv-mUAeki/s320/018.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629225666442306578" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Wow - I love smoothies!!!</div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7LCYXVXVbwYofDWllLDl17fPJK8FEVBq1u0QQGJz341yQWWT6YyGUSBcPIuv-_Wymynf3LgDt3KePgJjSTuu03soeL0USxz4LeUJgaXSeD0Ze2KrcAf0RzayLxHnHbo114vF5tkkC3a4F/s320/026.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629225670179711730" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">OH NO IT CAN'T BE GONE!!! </div><div><br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA7hOloh24WJv35FHB0e2SPrCEDkr7I66I7uMD941PoYv8sKcXz5Q09w-YZ40_tG9cvo3CpCtY1pvXAfrq7xVoth2S8sB3oiEhrq8k1tj-KOCIClTM388AqEOlRtLWkR90_DnThTwhvfUo/s320/028.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629225698581435698" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm so sad... I put her to work! We had projects upon projects upon projects. It was really fun! So here are a few before and afters of some of the things we did the first week she was here. (We did more, but that will have to be another post!)</div><div><br /></div><div>This rocking chair was mine when I was tiny. My parents bought it for me at a craft fair when I was maybe 3. Now that I have a tiny one, my mom mailed it to me, and we decided to add cushions (hence.. get rid of the heart cut-out since I have a little boy) and change the finish. The plan was to paint it, but we ended up loving the look of the cushions with the wood. What do you think? I still have the paint we had wanted, it was a grayish-beige-ish color. Actually, the color of the end tables you will see in a minute!</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">BEFORE: (this chair has seen lots of love!)</div><div><br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvVSt-kDI_4MCiMxRFDL0RjviHGkPXadZOdPJq49Y8A_cGhQO9pbIdn7-m4g6x3R2YtLcUORDdmZWiY4XD2p1pKn-cs_Ei4Ieaw4iUNHdM1uM4RhVJqZ_dC9qK-qM0EI9e-kAMB9oLqJ3D/s320/006+%25282%2529.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629216275980161938" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">AFTER:</div><div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcZnmsaNBBJFPSFJwRzwAgnHC36qNGdMNaaP5NxhTxmGyLx15T6pR8gDSV3QztLSIUK_X1xQh5mxC-bhwYjaw0tERPZbmO4H3pgUohoLMlluKo7txLdsRkk4O_zmXnjRjwMmd_QfdeOWJE/s320/002.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629216288564668386" /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLeF33jsSEeA89vWB3zcgHt-N7b-mwXW8cwEC4W1ll39SRqRA-VuRKLFs_CuyysoG_3uidLrQNNpw7huK-faEunwbqaux5CkzbzOqodfzOdICH0gzj3TRduV6pTFT5ENjawn_WZq_ylUzK/s320/004.JPG" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629216277901656050" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">What do you think... paint or no? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Recently, Brad and I purchased our FIRST bedroom set. But we did not like the side tables that came with the dressers we picked, so we opted not to buy them. They were HUGE. And, being as we may or may not live in this house past October, also - who knows where we may be next (a house with a tiny bedroom.. or a huge bedroom.. or an in-between bedroom.. or a long skinny room... or a square room... etc) we wanted small side tables. But we just haven't found any we love in the price range we picked. So we are using these ridiculous side tables I bought from a thrift store in college, they are homemade and stained that really ugly orange color. It looked hideous. I don't remember thinking they were so ugly when I was in college, but I suppose I overlooked lots of ugly furniture. Can you say dorm furniture? Ugh. And so, my mom and I used the paint we were going to use on the tiny rocking chair (also, the paint we used when Brad painted the guest bathroom months and months ago) and made them look dece. Take a look.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The before. I had been having the worst time finding a comforter/duvet/quilt/coverlet/something that I like for our bed, and my mom just happened to have this red one laying around, so she mailed it to me. We decided to make some pillow slip-covers to dress it up, the two patterned ones. The three pillows in the back actually came off my couch (I just recovered them.. a whole other post though!) and I tried them on my bed instead, and turns out - I love them! So... my couch is lacking until I make 3 more that will be just for my bed. Hopefully I can get to JoAnn's tomorrow and do that this weekend! What is your opinion on these pillows? Should I stick with this same exact fabric (it's a creamy colored linen) or should I switch it up? I despise the paint color in the master bedroom. You can tell a little bit by looking at these photos, but look a little closer. The top is painted that light gray-blue color, while the bottom is painted a dark almost-teal color. I dont know what the owners were thinking when they painted this bedroom.. or if they used this as a room for their color-blind teenage boy, but it is ugly. I have been so close to shelling out the cash to paint a room I may or may not be in next year, but haven't done it. Mostly because I don't have a ladder, and the ceiling is peaked. If anyone has any brilliant ideas on how to disguise ugly ugly walls without paint, I am more than willing to listen and try them! We are technically not allowed to paint since this is a rental... but I don't really think it is fair of them to say that when the walls are so blatantly personal. I would understand more if they had painted the whole thing neutral, but they did not. The guest bathroom used to be striped bright yellow and pale yellow, with a ducky-wearing-flippers and rain jacket border. That was promptly changed, bathrooms aren't that difficult to paint. Our guest bedroom is lavendar with one dark purple wall. Luckily - i like the colors that they picked for the main living area, so as long as nobody goes into my bedroom or the guest bedroom, everything will be fine. :)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-17787166104516442642011-06-14T07:37:00.000-05:002011-06-14T08:04:08.506-05:00The Desert.We've all been there. And probably hated every minute of it. We most likely begged God to bring us out of <i>that place. </i>To give us comfort, relief. And whether or not He brought you (me) out of that place, you (I) will probably, at some point, return.<div><br /></div><div>The desert.</div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(89, 89, 89); font-family: 'Droid Sans', 'Lucida Grande', Tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 22px; ">Webster’s Online Dictionary defines <strong style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">desert</strong> as: 1) arid land with usually sparse vegetation; an area of water apparently devoid of life 2) a wild uninhabited and uncultivated tract 3) a desolate or forbidding area</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 22px;"><br /></span></span></div><div>It doesn't sound very appealing, does it? And yet, I bet you can relate. I know I can. I have had times in my life where I felt like I was living in a desert, spiritually. My prayer life has been dry. I have been devoid of life. It has been desolate and uninhabited, my world.</div><div><br /></div><div>I get these emails every day, from a website called www.incourage.com .. Maybe you've heard of it? And they are up-lifting, encouraging, and most days I look forward to that email hitting my inbox. Last week (or sometime) one of these devotionals was about the desert, and she changed my complete perspective. Let me tell you about it.</div><div><br /></div><div>"<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(89, 89, 89); font-family: 'Droid Sans', 'Lucida Grande', Tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 22px; ">If you search for scriptures throughout the book of Exodus you notice that God called His people to: worship me in the desert <strong style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">(Exodus 7:16)</strong>, journey into the desert <strong style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">(Exodus 3:18)</strong>, hold a festival to me in the desert <b>(Exodus 5:1)</b>.<strong style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; "> </strong>They looked toward the desert, and there was the glory of the LORD appearing in the cloud<strong style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">(Exodus 16:10)</strong>.</span>"</div><div><br /></div><div>Rock my world, dear friends at incouragement. I have never put this together. The desert doesn't have to be a dry, desolate place. The Lord LOVES to take situations that seem hopeless, and make them hopeful. He loves to take places that are desolate, and make them fruitful. </div><div><br /></div><div>"<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(89, 89, 89); font-family: 'Droid Sans', 'Lucida Grande', Tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 22px; ">I believe during the “dry times” we learn to seek God daily, ask Him questions, get to know Him more intimately, and remember not to take Him for granted. He stretches our faith muscles, convicts our hearts, challenges our trust and just like every good workout leaves us a little sore. But in the long run, we are fit for the next challenge. We are stronger than when we started. We realize even more how much we need Him in our daily lives, how much He has to offer and how much we count on Him.</span>"</div><div><br /></div><div>And so.. this affected me more than I can tell you. I feel like I am in a desert place right now. (And this is hard for me to admit). And sometimes, I am really sad. </div><div><br /></div><div>Which is dumb, to be honest. I have been blessed beyond measure, and I know that. My husband is absolutely amazing, supportive, loving, encouraging, etc. I have a beautiful son, and I can't even explain the love I have for him. My husband has a great job as a Captain in the United States Army, which allows me to stay home with our son. We live in a beautiful home, in a beautiful state, with great friends. </div><div><br /></div><div>And yet, here I am. My whole family lives in the Midwest, a good 20 hour drive from me. Seriously - every aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparent, niece, nephew, etc., all within 2 bordering states. Growing up where I did - with all my relatives all around all the time - was amazing. I loved every minute of it and had big dreams of doing the same for my kids. We ate dinner at my Grandparents every Sunday evening, and I can't tell you what that meant to me. To be surrounded by loving, encouraging people. I wanted the same thing for my future children. I just knew it was to happen.</div><div><br /></div><div>But God had different plans for me. Plans that are bigger than me. Plans that are to stretch me in ways I never knew I could be. And these plans did not (at least so far, and for what I can tell about the future) include me being comfortable in the midwest. And so this KS homebody, fell in love with a soldier, embraced the army lifestyle, and is on her 3rd state with him in our 3 years of marriage. And I do love every minute of it. I wouldn't trade any of it. And oh boy is that man worth it. </div><div><br /></div><div>But occasionally - I am reminded that Colton will not be as close to his cousins as I was. He will not know his extended family in the same way that I did - will not feel like his grandparents house was his second home. And lately, this has all hit me pretty hard. </div><div><br /></div><div>Thankfully, I got that email at the right time. And my whole perspective has changed. I do not have to view the desert as a bad place, fight tooth and nail to get out of it and move into my "oasis." <span class="Apple-style-span">(note: I do not mean this to say I have been fighting to move back to KS, only to say I have been fighting the Lord to bring me out of this place)</span> I can embrace it. I can worship the Lord with all my soul, with all my might, bring glory to His name, while walking through the desert. I can even dance in the desert. </div><div><br /></div><div>And I will. I will use this time, where I feel distant and weary, to worship Him. To seek His will. To know that being where He wants me to be, will bring more glory to His name, and have a greater Kingdom impact, than being where I want me to be. Or where I feel like being.</div><div><br /></div><div>I don't know how easy this will be, but I am trying.</div><div><br /></div><div>Dear friends, are you in the same place? I would love to pray for you. Shoot me an e-mail or leave me a comment.</div><div><br /></div><div>brad.jessica2009@gmail.com</div><div><br /></div><div>brad.jessica2009 at gmail dot com</div>jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-88786462902113028112011-06-12T14:54:00.001-05:002011-06-12T19:12:37.604-05:00Colton at the Beach<div>Just a few pics of our beach baby!!</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">This was the spot we staked. But he really enjoyed "walking" with Daddy down the coast, splashing in the waves, watching the all the people run by, play frisbee, and seeing the wedding that was happening right next door on the beach. </div><div><br /></div><div>Best part of North Carolina. At least in my house! I love how easy it is, and how healthy it is, to grill up some meat and veggies. MMM, mmm.</div><div><br /></div><div>But I am afraid I am in somewhat of a grilling rut. I always grill the same things (and they are delicious!) But I am anxious to break out of my grilling shell.</div><div><br /></div><div>So I have a favor. What are your favorite things to grill, and how do you prepare them? Do you marinate them? Add any extra flavor? Or are they best on their own?<br /><br /></div><div>Leave me a comment, shoot me an e-mail, write it in a blog post (don't forget to comment so I know to look!) And please, please, please let me know!!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you, thank you! :)</div><div><br /></div><div>brad.jessica at gmail dot com</div>jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01670103564318222570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7672535674492422281.post-75995779829850011492011-06-04T19:40:00.000-05:002011-06-04T19:50:47.019-05:00delicious pork chop marinade!<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Okay y'all.. I'm not a big pork chop fan, usually. My mom makes these chops that have noodles and a marinara sauce, and she bakes it... I don't know all the details of it but its the only pork chops I have liked. Until now.<div>I bought some at the commissary and thought "well.. I probably wont like them.. but I know Brad loves pork chops so we will grill 'em" but then I found this marinade recipe, and tweaked it a bit to fit our tastes.. and its so good I just had to put the recipe on the blog. So now - this could be what's for dinner tonight (as RachaelRay would say)</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >(Why do pictures of meat never look appetizing.
